The Syndicat mixte du bassin de Thau (SMBT) provides residents and professionals in flood-prone areas with a free at-home service. The aim is to evaluate the risks to their property in case of flooding and propose suitable solutions. Adaptation work can be subsidized, covering up to 80% for individuals and 40% for shopkeepers, artisans, and small businesses.
The Thau basin is exposed to flood risks from overflowing rivers, rainwater runoff, or marine submersion. In response, the SMBT has launched the THAU ALABRI diagnostic. This program allows owners of homes in flood zones to have their property assessed confidentially. Minor adjustments, such as installing flood barriers (batardeaux) or backwater valves on wastewater drains, as well as more significant renovations, can be supported by financial aid.
Following an on-site assessment by an SMBT agent, a personalized report is provided to the owner. This report details the property's vulnerabilities and recommends solutions to minimize damage and protect people during a flood. Financial aid is available through the Natural Major Risks Prevention Fund (Fonds Barnier), covering 80% of eligible work for individuals, regardless of income, and 40% for businesses with fewer than 20 employees.
The THAU ALABRI initiative is part of the Thau Flood Prevention Action Program (PAPI), which aims to better protect the inhabitants, activities, and properties in the region.
Homeowners or business owners in the Thau territory who believe they are located in a flood zone are encouraged to contact the SMBT to verify their situation and request a THAU ALABRI diagnostic. This assessment is free, personalized, and confidential.
