The City of Lunel and its partners marked the start of construction for the future Gendarmerie with the symbolic planting of an olive tree on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the building site.

This symbolic gesture, initiated by Groupe FDI, brought together various project stakeholders, including Paulette Gougeon, Mayor of Lunel, Yvon Pellet, President of Groupe FDI, and Véronique Martin Saint-Léon, Secretary General of the Hérault Prefecture. The olive tree symbolizes cooperation, territorial anchoring, and the integration of environmental concerns.
Architects presented an 'extraordinary' gendarmerie, characterized by clean lines and remarkable environmental qualities. This ambitious architectural project is set to house gendarmerie personnel and support their missions in the area. Paulette Gougeon noted that this future facility will be 'a cornerstone of the gendarmerie in our department'.
Véronique Martin Saint-Léon, representing the state, recalled the administrative and political difficulties the project had faced, praising the perseverance of the municipal team and partners. She described the tree as a 'symbol of cooperation between different partners, the tenacity of the municipal team, and the courage to undertake a project of general interest, a territorial project'.
The future gendarmerie will cover a floor area of 15,000 m², located near the Julius Estève roundabout. It will include 110 housing units and 3,400 m² of activity space. The estimated construction duration is 24 months.
