In Grandvals, a commune of about sixty inhabitants, Mayor Laurent Prat and several elected officials presented a significant collective sanitation project near the Bès river. This project is crucial for environmental preservation and water quality, but its cost presents a considerable financial challenge for a municipality of this size. This situation perfectly illustrates the realities of hyper-rurality: investment obligations and needs are the same everywhere, but the financial capacities of local authorities vary greatly. The mobilization of all financial partners, primarily the Water Agency, but also the Department and the State, is therefore essential to achieve a level of subsidies that minimizes communal self-financing.
Following this presentation at the Grandvals town hall, the group visited the hamlet of Bonnechare to discover a 120 m³ fire reserve, supplied by the overflow of a water intake. A second 20 m³ reserve has also been developed for farmers' needs. This initiative is particularly commendable, especially after the recent heatwaves and the growing risk of fires that mobilize our firefighters.
Diagnoses carried out in our territories show that many fire hydrants no longer meet operational needs. Furthermore, their supply from the drinking water network leads to significant consumption of often already treated water, at a cost to local authorities and with a risk of depleting our reservoirs. Having dedicated reserves, independent of the drinking water network, therefore constitutes a real safety issue, as well as good water resource management.
This is a concrete example that other local authorities can hopefully draw inspiration from. In our rural areas, anticipating risks also means protecting our inhabitants, our farmers, and facilitating the intervention of our firefighters. Congratulations to the commune of Grandvals for this useful and intelligent investment!
In other news from the community of communes, we will revisit the visit to Albaret le Comtal. Welcomed by Mayor Eric Maury and several elected officials, the delegation engaged in a lengthy discussion at the town hall, followed by a visit to 3 gîtes and the Musée du Sabot.
