Between music, history, and heritage, the town of Canet-en-Roussillon offered an immersion into the Middle Ages from September 30 to October 3. The program, focused on the Catalan Itinerary of Troubadours and Jongleurs, captivated a varied audience, from children in leisure centers to enthusiasts of medieval history and music.
Younger attendees participated in a musical workshop led by Antoni Madueño, discovering the world of medieval banquets. Concurrently, a study day brought together researchers and specialists to explore the history of troubadours, jongleurs, and minstrels of Roussillon, as well as the heritage of Canet's viscount castle.
The viscount castle, an emblematic monument of the commune, hosted a musical night visit. This original discovery, punctuated by medieval songs, allowed participants to experience the site in a new light.
The event concluded musically with the concert-performance 'Crossing the sea in a stone ship'. Presented at the Saint-Jacques church by the Maîtrise de l’IRVEM, under the direction of Bertille De Swarte and Julie Jolivet, and with the participation of Antoni Madueño Ranchal, this show offered a musical journey on the paths of Saint-Jacques, from Canet to Compostela, blending pilgrimage chants, medieval repertoire, and Catalan musical traditions.
