During the 2026 autumn holidays, the Tautavel Museum of Prehistory offers an immersion into the lives of our ancestors. Across 2000 m² of galleries, the museum traces the history of humanity in Europe, from its arrival to the appearance of Neanderthals, including Homo heidelbergensis, who lived in the region hundreds of thousands of years ago.
A program of prehistoric activities is specially designed for children. Each day, a guided tour is offered in the morning, followed by a hands-on workshop in the afternoon.
On Mondays October 19 and 26, Saturday October 24, and Friday October 30, 2026, the activity "Producing Fire in Prehistory" will take place with a guided tour at 10:45 AM and a fire-starting workshop from 2:15 PM.
On Tuesdays October 20 and 27, 2026, the activity "Hunt like a Sapiens" offers guided tours at 10:45 AM and 2:30 PM, as well as a propulsor throwing workshop from 2:15 PM.
On Wednesdays October 21 and 28, 2026, discover "Pottery of the First Farmers" with guided tours at 10:45 AM and 2:30 PM, and a Neolithic pottery workshop starting at 2:15 PM.
On Thursdays October 22 and 29, 2026, the workshop "Making Stone Age Adornments" invites creativity, with guided tours at 10:45 AM and 2:30 PM, and the workshop beginning in the afternoon at 2:15 PM.
On Friday, October 23, 2026, the activity "Become a Detective of the Past" offers guided tours at 10:45 AM and 2:30 PM, and a workshop investigating the Cavillon burial site from 2:15 PM.
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the day "Evolution of Humans and Tools" includes a guided tour at 10:45 AM and a thematic workshop starting at 2:15 PM.
The museum provides an enriching museum experience with life-size reconstructions. Children learn while having fun, while adults discover archaeological collections unearthed during over 50 years of excavations at the Caune de l’Arago.
Workshops and guided tours are included in the admission fee and are held in multiple sessions depending on attendance. The ticket is valid all day. It is advisable to book tickets online in advance.
