About ten participants, young and old, explored the roles of hedges and country trees during an educational outing organized by Campagnes Vivantes 82 on Friday, October 23rd, in Tarn-et-Garonne.

This Friday, October 23rd, about ten participants, young and old, discovered the multiple roles of hedges and country trees with the facilitator from Campagnes vivantes 82. Hedges play a precious role in structuring landscapes, preserving water quality, reducing mudslides, adapting to climate change, limiting wind, and importantly, serving as habitat, food, and ecological corridors for biodiversity, particularly beneficial insects for crops.
They can also offer seasonal fruits such as medlars, quinces, serviceberries, rosehips, or blackberries, and hazelnuts, depending on the season. Under an ephemeral sun, this country walk allowed participants to learn to recognize several species of trees and shrubs: single-styled hawthorn, wild rose, field maple, tall ash, and medlar.
The event highlighted that these everyday neighbors often remain unknown. Participants were invited to continue exploring this sensitive natural area, also classified as a Natura 2000 site, managed by the Department of Tarn-et-Garonne and the Communauté de communes des Deux Rives, in collaboration with the associations CPIE Quercy-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne Biodiversité.
The association Campagnes Vivantes 82 offers awareness and animation activities focused on trees and hedges, as well as technical support to municipalities or intercommunalities for planting projects. A beneficial partnership for the environment and knowledge dissemination has been in place with the Communauté de communes des Deux Rives for several years.
