Obstructive or abusive parking on sidewalks, in front of fire hydrants, garages, or electric vehicle charging spots disrupts residents' lives and impedes circulation. In response, the City of Carcassonne is launching an information campaign starting in October to raise driver awareness.
A well-shared public space is crucial for the attractiveness and quality of life, especially in the city center. Improperly parked vehicles can block pedestrian access, hinder access to shops and residences, and critically, delay emergency services. Special attention is given to people with reduced mobility, for whom these obstacles can be particularly challenging to navigate.

The campaign aims to make drivers more responsible for a more accessible, fluid, and pleasant city center. Fines are in place for violations, ranging from €35 to €135, with potential towing in certain situations.
Specific violations include parking on the sidewalk (€135), in front of a fire hydrant (€135 + towing), in front of a garage or access to a dwelling (€35 + towing), and in a spot reserved for electric vehicles without being plugged in (€35 + towing).
The City of Carcassonne urges everyone to adopt good habits for a better-shared and accessible public space for all, emphasizing that respecting the rules makes life easier for everyone.
