Books, CDs, or comics no longer part of the departmental media library's collections will find a new life during two solidarity sales. These events will take place at the Labège site on October 3 and November 28. This initiative highlights the daily work of the MD31 teams in renewing collections and their commitment to reuse and solidarity.
Each year, the departmental media library acquires nearly 25,000 new documents to offer libraries in the region updated, attractive collections adapted to their audiences. Following a 'constant volume' principle, documents that become less relevant, outdated, or too fragile are removed, a process known as 'weeding' by professionals. This selection work is carried out throughout the year to maintain the quality and currency of the collections.
Removing an item from a collection does not necessarily mean it has reached the end of its life. Each year, the departmental media library chooses to donate usable documents to an association working in the field of solidarity. The association then organizes their sale on the media library's premises, with logistical support from the teams. This year, the association Parenthèse, based in Castanet-Tolosan, is partnering with the operation. The proceeds will help promote access to culture and reading for children and young people.
Departmental employees are invited to take advantage of these two events. The first sale, focused on youth items, will be held on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The second, on Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will offer books, comics, music, and documentaries for adults.
Prices are set at €1 per book and €0.50 per CD. Many documents are still in very good condition, offering an opportunity to stock up on reading material at a low price while participating in a solidarity action. The departmental media library is located at 611 rue Buissonnière, 31670 Labège.
