The city of Castelnau-le-Lez is establishing extra-municipal commissions to strengthen dialogue between civil society and elected officials, with an initial focus on the development of Jean-Jaurès Avenue.

Intended to include local stakeholders in the implementation of municipal orientations, extra-municipal commissions are consultative committees. Their role is to conduct reflection, issue opinions, and formulate proposals on structuring projects for the city and major themes of communal life.
"They promote constructive dialogue between civil society and elected officials so that decision-making is informed by needs and skills," estimates Hind Tennia, deputy delegate for Neighborhood Life, Citizen Participation, and Extra-Municipal Commissions. A report on the work and concrete progress of each extra-municipal commission will be presented annually to the municipal council.
Mayor Julien Miro detailed that calls for applications will be launched soon. About twenty residents, representatives of associations and socio-economic actors, aged at least 16, will be able to sit on each commission. A resident may only sit on one extra-municipal commission.
The first extra-municipal commission will concern the development and safety of Jean-Jaurès Avenue, a central artery with particularly heavy road traffic. This avenue has seen no improvements under previous mandates, despite requests from many residents, some of whom have formed an association. An activity report will be drafted. An annual assessment will be presented to the municipal council.
