On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, the City of Mèze has inaugurated its new trail dedicated to Mèze's history and heritage. This initiative offers a different way to explore the city, discovering the places, activities, and traditions that have shaped its identity over the centuries. To mark this inauguration, the company Merversible provided the public with a guided and theatrical walk.
This new trail, now accessible to all, allows visitors to discover Mèze autonomously through 10 panels installed throughout the city. Illustrated with photographs, engravings, and old documents, these panels recount the evolution of the town and highlight the major stages of its history. The port, ancient ramparts, wine and commercial activities, market halls, emblematic buildings, and local traditions all serve as entry points to understanding today's city through its past.
An interactive element has been integrated into the trail: QR codes allow access, via smartphone, to complementary content, including audio sequences designed for visually impaired individuals and children, thus enriching the visit at each stage.
“"With this trail, we wanted to make the history of Mèze accessible to everyone, both locals and visitors. Our heritage must not only be preserved: it must be told, shared, and passed on. These panels allow us to rediscover places we sometimes encounter every day without necessarily knowing their full history."
The creation of the panels involved the Municipal Archives and Heritage Service, as well as Jean-Pierre Gondelle and Michel Py for the texts. Photographs are from the collections of Yannick Baëza, Alain Cambon, Didier Gillet, Michel Py, Jacques Remeyse, and André Viala, while graphic design and illustrations are by Elisabeth Pecheur and the City of Mèze's Communication Service.
