The University of Montpellier and the Montpellier-Nîmes Faculty of Medicine unveil an exhibition dedicated to the lives of medical students during the interwar period, hosted in the iconic historic dissection room.

An exceptional exhibition, set in the emblematic dissection room of the historic Faculty of Medicine building, immerses visitors in the daily lives of future doctors from the interwar period. Through a remarkable collection of archives, it traces their journey from their arrival in Montpellier to their thesis defense.
This initiative, running from October 1, 2026, to December 18, 2026, aims to highlight the heritage and history of the world's oldest medical faculty. A collection of historical posters, restored and digitized, sheds new light on the student and institutional life of the era.
Visitors can follow a student's path from enrollment to thesis defense, exploring the courses, learning environments, study trips, externship, internship, as well as daily life including housing, dining, and student associations.
The scenography, designed with respect for the dissection room, a listed historic monument, offers an immersive experience where architectural heritage and archives constantly dialogue. Mediation tools, such as a portrait gallery and a historical map, enhance the visitor's journey.
The exhibition is the result of a collaborative effort involving teachers, students, and university services, demonstrating a commitment to making archives a tool for transmission and cultural mediation.
Guided tours are offered on Thursdays upon registration via email at dcsph-archives-historiques-medecine@umontpellier.fr, with a maximum group size of 18 people.
