As part of the "A l'UM la science" program, broadcast on Divergence FM, researchers from the University of Montpellier shared findings from the Nodssum mission. This mission, focused on monitoring radioactive waste at sea, involved exploring the seabed of the northeast Atlantic, where 200,000 barrels were dumped between 1949 and 1982.
Following an initial survey in 2025 to map the area, scientists from the CNRS, Ifremer, and the ASNR conducted a new expedition from May 27 to June 28. The objective was to analyze the condition of the barrels and their potential environmental impact. Benoit Ildefonse, a geologist experienced in marine expeditions, participated in this mission and described the diving conditions at 5000 meters deep.
The program also features the work of the SPO laboratory (Sciences for Oenology) with Nicolas Sommerer, who presents the polyphenol analysis platform, compounds found not only in wine but also in other products. Finally, Françoise Fons announced the upcoming Autumn Mushroom and Plant Fair, scheduled for October 17 and 18 at the Faculty of Pharmacy, featuring visits, exhibitions, and conferences.
