At the end of September, during the 12th European University of AFCCRE in Toulon, Loïc Linares, president of Sète agglopôle méditerranée, spoke at a round table dedicated to Mediterranean issues. This event marks the relaunch of the AFCCRE's Euro-Mediterranean commission, aiming to place the Mediterranean at the center of exchanges between local authorities and to voice the concerns of territories to the European Union.
This initiative aligns with a favorable European context, marked by the creation of a European Commissioner for the Mediterranean post and the launch of a Pact for the Mediterranean. For Loïc Linares, these directions must translate into concrete actions on the ground. He stated: 'Thirty years after the Barcelona process, crises have made the Euro-Mediterranean relationship complex. To rebuild it, we must start from our commonalities. And this necessarily involves the territories.'
Facing local challenges such as climate change, water preservation, and the future of fishing, shellfish farming, and viticulture, the Thau basin faces urgent issues. Regarding fishing, Loïc Linares recalled the need to adapt regulations: 'We cannot face tomorrow's challenges with yesterday's rules. Our fishermen must be able to make a living from their profession.' The Euromed commission will enable elected officials to share solutions and collectively influence European decisions.
