After a first issue in 2025, "L’Esquirol", the magazine created by and for the children of the Cévennes National Park, makes its return for the new school year. This project, stemming from the "I Learn with the National Park" program, transforms children into authors, illustrators, and journalists, offering them a platform to share their vision of the Park.
This year, agro-pastoralism has been at the heart of the educational activities offered to schools. Students have explored themes such as transhumance, summer pastures, drovers' roads, sheep farming, and cheese making, often through fieldwork. The "Echoes of the Schoolchildren" section collects their written testimonials.
Ulysse, a 9-year-old student from Florac, wrote the editorial for this new issue. He shares his learnings about sheep and transhumance, as well as his perspective on his environment: 'you learn more about nature and how to protect it'.
The magazine retains its identity focused on fun learning and curiosity. Across its twelve pages, it features a presentation of the Montagu Harrier, a migratory bird of prey studied by students from the school in Le Vigan. The "Not So Silly Questions" section answers children's queries about nature, with explanations provided by Park agents.
To entertain, this issue includes a story in Occitan, a comic strip created by the children, coloring pages, games, and even cut-out characters for a puppet theater.
The magazine is distributed to students participating in educational projects with the Park's educational service. A digital version is also available for download on the Cévennes National Park website.
