The PETR of Gévaudan-Lozère, in partnership with the SDEE of Lozère, has been selected by the State as a pilot territory for the electrification of uses, an initiative aimed at reducing fossil fuel dependency.

On April 10, 2026, the Prime Minister announced several measures to reduce France's dependence on fossil fuels, including the '100 Electrification Territories' initiative. This program aims to encourage pilot territories to accelerate the electrification of uses and promote the phasing out of fossil fuels, with a dual objective of reducing energy dependence and greenhouse gas emissions.
Specifically, the initiative will support territories in implementing actions such as replacing oil boilers, installing heat pumps or geothermal systems, electrifying vehicle fleets of local authorities and businesses, supporting the energy transition of companies, and installing fast electric charging stations.
The application from the PETR of Gévaudan-Lozère, supported by the Prefect of Lozère and presented in partnership with the SDEE of Lozère in June 2026, is among the 109 territories selected out of nearly 200 applications in September 2026.
According to the SCOT diagnosis, the PETR of Gévaudan-Lozère remains highly dependent on fossil fuels, particularly for heating and transportation. The territory will be able to leverage the 'Territoire d’industrie Nord-Lozère' initiative for the energy transition of its local industry.
The role of the PETR will be to bring together stakeholders to draft a roadmap prioritizing actions for the 2026-2030 period. Information meetings will precede the signing of this roadmap, scheduled for December 2026.
