The City of Mazamet wishes to alert its residents to a major evolution in telecommunications networks that will soon affect the entire territory. Starting in 2029, the copper network, which has long enabled fixed telephony and ADSL in France, will gradually disappear in the municipalities of the Agglomération Castres-Mazamet. Telephony, internet services, and associated uses relying on this network will no longer be available, as the service will be permanently cut off.
This copper network, installed over fifty years ago, is being replaced by fiber optics. Already available, this technology offers a faster, more reliable connection, better suited to current and future digital uses. The old copper network has become increasingly difficult and costly to maintain, and no longer meets the growing demand for bandwidth and connection quality. Fiber optics, available in nearly 98% of the Agglomération Castres-Mazamet, provides a faster, more stable, more efficient, and more energy-saving connection.
To anticipate this deadline and avoid any interruption of service on their landline, residents are invited to check their address's eligibility for fiber optics. Once confirmed, it is advisable to initiate the necessary steps with their chosen operator to schedule a connection appointment. It is strongly recommended not to wait until the copper network is closed to undertake this digital transition, to ensure the continuity of communication services on their landline.

In collaboration with the infrastructure operator XpFibre, responsible for fiber deployment in the municipality, the City of Mazamet is organizing an information session. This meeting will take place on Thursday, October 15 at 5 PM at the Maison des Associations, rue Galibert Pons. Residents will be able to speak directly with the Community Relations Manager from XpFibre and get answers to their questions regarding fiber optic connections.
